U.S. stock futures are higher. Futures are rising this morning after yesterday's higher close for the S&P 500 broke a string of down days that began the quarter. Weekly initial jobless claims, which rose more than expected to 221k (vs. 213k estimates), are helping the market shake jitters regarding Fed rate cuts after a few economic data points came in stronger-than-expected. Yields are ticking modestly lower ahead of the March jobs data release tomorrow morning before the market opens. Federal Reserve officials continue speaking engagements throughout the week. In international markets, Asian indexes finished higher as markets in Taiwan, China, and Hong Kong are closed for a public holiday. European markets are seeing modest gains in afternoon trading. Gold prices are easing off new all-time highs made yesterday, and crude prices are lower. Meanwhile, the U.S. dollar is weakening.
